Nightshade Berries Found in Frozen Peas

Black nightshade berries have been found in a packet of frozen Talleys peas. Talleys and the New Zealand Food Safety Authority are investigating this contamination.

Black nightshade (Solanum nigrum) is toxic and can cause vomiting, sweating, fever, dizziness, delirium and in severe cases coma. It is not to be confused with the less common, and more toxic, Deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna).
