The manufacturer of "Piranha Vege Crackers" has voluntarily recalled their products after concerns they may contain higher levels than normal of naturally occurring cyanide.
Cassava plants contain cyanogenic glycosides - substances which are broken down in the body to cyanide and can cause poisoning. However, only very large ingestions are likely to cause toxicity.
It is very unlikely someone would be poisoned from eating the crackers. Piranha Vege Crackers are not available in NZ.
